after a while of looking for a solution for this issue I am having, I found this: http://www.tomshardw...54-29-asus-dead some posts down someone actually suggested to use WD40 on the fan, so I'm trying this out I'll let you know in a while if this works :P

I have an A8N-Deluxe and replaced the chipset fan with a big metal block and it works perfectly fine.

well, the wd40 didn't work, I keep reading about all these people replacing it for a Zalman heatsink, been thinking about doing that, I'll try calling Asus on monday to see if they got a solution for free, if not I'll probably do that.

Zalman heatsink is exactly what my metal block is, I did it to reduce the noise of the fan cause it was loud as hell, but I hear of a lot of heat problems with the chipset fans too. The heatsink works perfectly fine so you should go for it.

you know I was looking for pictures of the board on line and I came across one that didn't have a fan, I think their latest models got rid of it and they switched to a heatsink of some sort

now that I look at it again, that looks to be a fancy kind of fan all the way to the right pumping air to the chip all the way to the bottom right..

I believe that is a linked passive heatsink, where the heat gathered in the box on the bottom right is transferred to the larger block on the upper left which is designed to dissipate heat faster but wouldn't fit over the chipset directly, no fans at all.

Mine has a heat pipe that runs from the upper X58 chip, right under the CPU fan, to the fins near the PSU without a fan on either so it could just be a heat block on that picture there. Plus it looks too rectangular for a fan. Looks like a block of aluminum to me. Hmm, mine doesn't even have a heat pipe running from the lower ICH10R chipset, that's the HDD controller on the bottom under the video card. Side note, that CPU fan is ginormous!

Yeah I can't. That other drive in there is the 1.5tb drive that has a bunch of stuff I need on it, so I'm stuck waiting for the new one...I really should get a USB backup drive just in case. I have a 150gig music USB drive but it's only got like 60gigs left on it lol. I remember the days when I had a 100meg hdd and thought I was the shit! In my old 286 16. Then I upgraded to a 386DX40 with a Diamond Viper Pro 4meg video card. Oh and I had 16megs of ram!
